Would you list 5 (or more if you want) wheels that are similar in design (look) to the Stock Xterra wheels (I'm not into the flashy metal...the brushed aluminum is more what I'm goin' for), that are made by reputable companies and have 1/2" more offset than stock? ...I think offset is the correct term. I want them 1/2" further out away from the Xterra.

I'm going to simplify this as much as I can....

Back Spacing - More Back Spacing tucks the wheel in closer,
less back spacing pushes the wheel out farther.

To clear stuff in the wheel well direction...Use LESS BS.

To Get the tire to fit back into the wheel well when stuffed....Use MORE BS.


Essentially...think of Offset as the opposite of BS.

Thanks for the clairification on the BS (pun intended :-)).

I want to push the wheel out 1/2" over stock. (less BS, right?)

I wanted Luke to recommend a quality wheel with similar styling to the stock and being spaced 1/2" out further than stock.

I don't think Luke knows of any, cuz there has been no reply for a week. Too bad :-(

I've seen the stock BS listed as 5.25" to around 5.1"....so a half inch farther out would therefore be around 4.75" of BS, to maybe 4.6"...as 4.75 is a standard size...my guess is that is what you'd find anyway...unless you went to a 4.5" BS...another popular standard BS....I'd think 4.75" would be OK.

The problems with too little BS (Why 4.0" might be worse than 4.5" for example...) are the strain on the wheel bearings and so forth (Sticking the wheel farther out increases the length of the lever acting upon the joint...eventually overstraining it...and the affects on steering geometry (The track is now wider, etc...)....and the tire won't fit into the wheelwell under full compression either.

Too much BS...turning radius can suffer if the wider tire now rubs inboard components....you have narrowed your track (Easier to flip too... ).

I agree with every point!
Where I'm coming from is I have 1" spacers already on the stock wheel. I need the offset for articulation and rubbing issues (inner fire walls). So, based on my current set up and where I want to go, I need 1/2 more offset (4.75's?). I would like to error to over 1/2" instead of less than 1/2 more offset.

So, Lance, you seem to know what's up. What wheel would you recommend that was of high quality with what I want?

First of all lets get the terminology thing straightened out so that we can address the issues from the same reference point. Wheel manufacturers do not use the "back spacing" in wheel dimensions. They all use "offset" which is very easy to understand. It is the measurement form the center line of the wheel to the mounting surface


Now, if you are trying to make the wheel protrude out further from the middle of your truck a lower or even a negative offset would be needed. Not knowing what type of truck you have makes it kind of hard to determine what would achieve the desired results. What is the offset of the wheel that you are currently using?

Okay, fair question Luke. I guess the fact that it is a link from the Xterra board would mean that you have no idea what I'm talking about.

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra.

I would like to buy wheels similar in styling to the stock wheels (5 or 4 spoke) and nothing really flashy.....but definately a high quality wheel.

I want 1/2" more off set (1/2" further out) than stock. What are my wheel choices that match that description?:flash:

I think you mean that you want 1/2" LESS offset from the stock Xterra wheel which will then push your tires out further away from the truck.

FSRBiker posted the stock Xterra info in an earlier post as:
Nissan Xterra
Stock: 15x7
Offset 40mm
Backspacing 5.07
6 on 5.5

This 40mm offset translates into 1.574 inches further out from centerline of the 7 inch wheel, hence (half of 7 = 3.5) +1.574 = a "backspacing" of 5.074 inches.

So, in other words if you want to move the tire out 1/2" then you want an offset which is 1.574 - .5 = 1.074" which is ~27.3mm offset.

This means that with a 15x8 rim, with 27.3mm offset, your inside of your rim would end up in the same location relative to the truck (this doesn't take into consideration the tire sidewall bulging depending upon the tire size), because the 8 inch rim will add .5" that will get cancelled out from the .5" offset difference.

the simple answer to your question is ...

you need to get a 15x8 wheel with a 20mm offset. We do not have any wheels that meet that description for the Xterra. We do have a 16x8 with a 20mm offset that would work for your truck. The wheel is made by ASA and it is called the TRS.
The cost of the wheel is $129.00 each.
