92 lesabre brakes

I've got a 92 lesabre limited, love the old girl but she's got a brake issue. When the brakes are applied mildly she steers fine but when the are applied hard or slammed on it pulls to the left real bad. Alignment , struts, front end and front rotors and pads have been checked/ replaced and are all in good order.
There is some cracking in the rubber on the brake lines to the caliper.
Any one experienced this or have any idea what could cause this? Thanks TH

Re: 92 lesabre brakes

If you see cracking on the outside of the hose, that is a sign of age and the effects of the elements on the rubber. The problem is, what you can't see, and that is on the inside of the hose. When the inside develops cracks, the hose will act like a balloon when pressure is applied. The hose absorbs the pressure rather than the pressure being applied to the caliper. Usually one hose will fail before the other and cause low pressure to one caliper and normal pressure to the other, therefore giving the "pulling effect" to the side that is operating normally. Of course, it is better to replace both hoses at the same time! Also be sure the caliper is "floating" on the mounting studs and not binding in any other way.
