adding gap

i dont have coils, so thats not an option. but i want to add about a 1/2" gap in the rear. i was wondering if its possible to add washers or some kind of spacer above the spring cap?


also, since im not changing the spring height or anything, im assuming camber wont be affected. or will it?

Well the two studs are a part of the mount, not the shock rod, so your mount may not be flush to the shock tower which is a no no.

I assume you are on lowering springs, and they are too low?
Modifying the actual perch of the shock would be the only smart way of to move the spring up, but that is a total pain in ass.

You are still going to have to unbolt the shock from the shock tower to drop the assembly down, but having washers on your towers or under them supporting 500lbs of weight transfer does not give me a warm feeling.

i did try putting in the washers, nothings broken yet... and it does have a little gap now, less than 1/2" though.
and yes, the back is lowered a little too much, the car looks level, but the gap in the back is less than the front, and im hella picky about it. having more gap in front looks stupid.

is there any solution other than getting coils or modifying the perch(since i dont really know how to do that anyways)??

There is no trick that will get you height adjustabilty that is safe.

You would either have to get new springs or adjustable perches or threaded body shocks.

I have heard of people using discs that stack in the shock perch so that the sping is actually seated higher on the shock.

They have to tack weld the discs on place. The discs were made at a machine shop, so that they would fit perfect, and also the springs were off the car to measure how much room the base of the spring needed to sit on.

That is not safe since the hat of the shock is not seated against the body and can rock back and forth causing cracking and bending. Do you want your body cracking while taking a turn? That would be bad.

A better way would be to insert spring spacers - you can find these at Pep Boys or Autozone type shops. I had to do this with my Azenis tires last year when they rubbed.

Were they metal or rubber discs?

More like metal (coated with rubber) wedges.

thanks, ill get some today. just outa curiosity, where are these spacers being installed? and how much do they cost?
