98 Silverado Keyless remote problems

I am having trouble programming my keyless remotes.

I have a 98 Silverado K3500 Crew cab Long box.

When I bought the truck, it had no remotes that came with it.
I checked with the local Chevy dealer and he was no help finding out if the truck had remotes that came with it. So I emailed Chevy directly. They said my truck had an AU3 code (meaning it had remotes originally). I checked everywhere for remotes.

What came up was a two button remote GM#16245100-29 FCC id ABO1502T. I got two of these remotes and tried to jump pin 4 and 8 on the DLC and the locks did not cycle. I tried grounding pin 8 and the locks did not cycle.

A friend of mine was able to program the remotes on his 97 Suburban and they worked fine. He tried them on his son's 97 Silverado and they didn't work there either. Now I am really confused. We know the remotes work. But what is up with the DLC? or are these the actual remotes for the Silverado (97/98)?

Does anyone have a 98 Silverado keyless remote that they would be willing to give the GM# and FCC id # ?
Does anyone have any suggestions I can try?????

thanks,

Dennis

Re: 98 Silverado Keyless remote problems

All 97-98 Silverados with factory keyless entry use:

FCC: ABO1502T
GM: 16245100-29

They are the 2 button LOCK, UNLOCK remotes.

Thanks for the reply....I have two of those exact remotes. My problem is I cannot program them. I have tried many things, but I cannot get the locks to cycle.

Re: 98 Silverado Keyless remote problems

I was under the impression that the code was AU0 if you had factory keyless entry. Not all trucks have it. I'd recommend stopping at a local dealer, let them know you have the customer procedure and often they will realize they can't charge you for programming at that point. You should be able to get them to try programming with their scantool - and if thats a no go, you either have a faulty or disconnected receiver - or no factory keyless entry installed.

Thanks for the reply.
I emailed Chevy directly with my vin # and they said that my truck had an AU3 code, which means it had keyless remotes from the manufacturer. Sure is puzzling....

Re: 98 Silverado Keyless remote problems

According to my list AU3 is Electric Locks and AU0 is Remote Entry.

You can have electric locks without remote entry.

This is the procedure I have used. I don't know what year models it covers but I know it works on 2001 S10 and 2003 S10 Blazer.

Transmitter Programming

Important
All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to four transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

You may program up to 4 transmitters, using either of the two following procedures:

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required)
Close all the vehicle doors.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold the door unlock switch.
While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 2 - Scan Tool Required)
Install a scan tool.
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
Use the scan tool in order to access the Body Control Module (BCM) Special Function: Program Key Fobs menu.
Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitters.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Thanks alot for clearing that up. According to Chevy...after the third email...they told me my truck was not listed with the AU0 RPO. So it did not come with keyless remotes.

Thanks,

Dennis

Re: 98 Silverado Keyless remote problems

Dennis,

I know this is a couple of years ago, but were you able to get keyless entry installed in your truck? I have a 97 Silverado and it too just has power door locks but no keyless entry. I'm wanting to have keyless entry and was wondering if maybe the vehicle is prewired, just doesn't have the receiver? or would I have to buy an aftermarket unit?

Thanks,
Nancy
