2 wheel drive
Does installing a 15 AMP fuse in the FWD fuse socked next to the right front strut tower improve gas millage on a 96 legacy 4wd. I installed a fuse and have only 2 wheel drive now does this improve gas millage. Will it dammage anything?

Re: 2 wheel drive
How would a fuse do anything for gas mileage?
Not only this, but why do you now think you only have FWD?

Re: 2 wheel drive
When you install a fuse you disable the 4 wd. the 4 WD is controlled electrically

Re: 2 wheel drive
Reread your post, some reason I was thinking of a different model year, sorry.
So, explain the fuel consumption theory....

Re: 2 wheel drive
As always, YMMV (your mileage may vary). I have read on other boards that your transmission is strong enough to run in FWD mode. Also, some people have reported an average of 1-2 mpg better performance, on average, in FWD mode.
Another benefit is that you will have less wear and tear on the AWD portion of the trans meaning it will last longer. Still, if you are going to use the AWD on dry pavement, you will need to keep your tires even. The fronts will wear faster during braking, and acceleration so they should be rotated often. Keep them matched and properly inflated. The downside is that you may not have the AWD when you need it. Nick |
