Question for you brake guys......
To make a long story short......I was doing some donuts with some of my buddies who happen to be cops as well.....(they were doing it too).....And during one of my turns I lost a control, and slammed the passenger side into a 1 foot high curb......the front jumped the curb and knocked down some pine tree branches.........Anyways, after I got a hold of myself, I saw that the outer edges of the rims were bent.....so I said no biggie.....I started to drive home, and you could here click, click....I thought it was the rims....so I changed the rims........It still went click, click, click.....Then I saw that the rotors were warped, and whenever you make a full rotation with the wheel it scraped....so I said that it should be changed and that was the cause.......I went and bought the powerslots.....new pads front and back........And it seemed to go away.....but then started again....Yesterday I had about 50 bundles of shingles in my truck......and when I push the brakes it keeps clicking, like scraping metal, ever time you make a full turn......I am now thinking about changing the calipers.....I also added lots that anti squel stuff to the pads.....It's beginnig to piss me off.....Should I change the calipers......Sorry for the long post, any help apprciated as always....

Re: Question for you brake guys......
Sorry to say this, but it sounds like the damage may be a little more extensive than bent rotors. Everything on brake systems must line up true no matter what the vehicle or you'll have problems. Stop and think of the force you put on the wheels, rotors and everything that they are attached to by hitting them with that much weight. No one in their right mind would take a sledge hammer and pound on the rotors while they're on the truck. What you did was a lot worse since the truck weighs a lot more.

Re: Question for you brake guys......
If it was me (and there was a time when it coud have been me), I would be looking real hard at rebuilding/replacing everything from the bearings out. I would at least satisfy myself that everything was up to spec!
Being from snow/ice country, I have seen many a vehicle with the front wheel curled under by a curb. Now yours was not that bad...but still it was damaged. Our front ends are not made for high shock lateral loading. If I were you, I'd be looking real close at everything to include suspension and steering. I run way too fast on the highways to have any doubt about the integrity of my front (control) end.

Re: Question for you brake guys......
The noise is coming from the REAR PASSENGER side......so that means I should change...? Could you list me a couple parts.......calipers...hub...shocks? sway bars? Thanks for all your help......The noise is not that bad.......but if you pay attention or open the windows..you can hear it... I might be able to live with, just maybe, but the thought that someone in a ford or dodge hears my chevy, they laugh.....not to mention the people walking the streets......So what exactly should I change....thanks...

Re: Question for you brake guys......
I'm sorry...I just immediately thought "front"...it's a rented brain that I have, and I can't do a thing with it.
Right now though I'm sitting here realizing how little I know about the rear end of my truck...never had it apart. I'm afraid I can't help you with that one. We are going to have to wait to see if anyone else has some thoughts, or wait for Monday so I can tear mine down and look...I hate it when you people show me just how little I know...so I have to go look.

Re: Question for you brake guys......
It could be the backing plate got bent and is rubbing up against the rotor.
If you jack up the rear, can you hear the noise if you spin the tire by hand? //2000CAYukon |

Re: Question for you brake guys......
Sorry, for the late reply.......By the backing plate you mean that thin piece of metal on the inner side of the rotor, and about 1/4 bigger then the rotor....(circular shape)......I will definetaley check that out tommorrow morning, but when I changed the rotors it looked ok to me.....maybe I will push it back towards the inner side further, and see what happens.....thanks for your help guys...I will keep you guys posted....

Re: Question for you brake guys......
Check your emergency brake shoes and hardware. Could have been jarred around a bit. Pretty crappy design anyway. Mine make noise and I didn't even pull the stunt that you did.

Re: Question for you brake guys......
Sorry guys for the late post......I checked that piece of metal (can't remember what to call it, been a long day) beside the rotor......and seemed ok....it was about half inch or so from the rotor.......but anyways....I bent it even further away from the rotor....but there was no luck.....I still get the noise........It only happens when I brake softly....but when I make hard stops, it is ok.....The other thing is that I do not have any emergency brakes.....no shoes even....So I am one hundred percent sure it has nothing to do with the emergency brakes......Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....Maybe I should lift the wheels and spin the tires to see if there is any noise.....?????????

Re: Question for you brake guys......
Sounds like you might have bent the axle shaft itself. You need to check it for excessive run out. Jack it up and take the tire and brake caliper off. Put a couple of the lug nuts back on (inverted) to hold the rotor in place on the hub. Clamp something to the caliper bracket that you can put close to the rotor, as far out on the rotor as you can, but not touching it. Now spin the rotor and watch the gap between the rotor and the piece you clamped on. Does the gap get bigger and smaller? Measure the smallest gap and the largest gap. The difference is the run out.

Re: Question for you brake guys......
Hey...Thank you vry much for that information.....I think that's what I got to do......I know when I was spinning the old rotor that it was totally wobbly.....I would saw at least 3/8 of an inch.....I must have bent the axle shaft as well....I am going to check that as soon as possible and let you guys know........Do we know how much a new axle shaft might cost? Thanks for all your help ......
