Question Instrument Custer Change 2002 Ram 1500

I recently had to replace my instrument custer as my dome light dimmer control is built into this. The dome light would be dim and the cargo light failed to turn off. Not to mention that it smelled like burning circuit board! Anyway I bought another cluster from ebay. The cluster works great, even the dome & cargo lights work fine now. The problem is that the odometer reads 10k/miles less than my broken odometer/cluster. I want to keep this legit , should I call dodge and get soaked up the wazoo for them to reprogram the odometer, or does anybody have any other suggestions?

Thanks.

They are not allowed to do anything to the odometer, even go up with it. They are supposed to be sealed, from what I have heard I don't even know if they can be reprogrammed, the mileage is kept in a memory, so changeing the cluster should not have effected it. I would say consider it a gift, 10k mls is not a big deal, unless you have a discrepancy doing any warranty work. Don't worry about it. If you want to sell it and feel it important, tell the buyer, other than that it is not a big problem.

Thumbs up Re: Instrument Custer Change 2002 Ram 1500

Had new instrument cluster replaced under warranty on 03 Ram (had a red line running through the mileage/odometer). Dealer didn't want me to drive it while waiting for new one (1 full week) because when they order the replacement....it comes pre programmed with the mileage and they CANNOT change that info! I got appx. 1000 free miles. The truck was our only vehicle for 2 adults with 2 kids, leaving it was not an option.
