good deal on heads?

well later i am going to do the lt1 cam swap to my 305 tbi. And i was going to put some diffrent heards on also. like some 350 L98 heads and get them reworked. what do you think. well i saw know where i can get some for $45 and they are complete heads with valves springs rods, and all bolts. and they have no craks. good deal? and is this a good head to put on if i get them reworked with my lt1 cam?

Re: good deal on heads?

the 350 heads have larger combustion chambers and will cause you to lose compression and power along with that, look for 305 tpi heads and get those reworked.

Re: good deal on heads?

yea, a couple ways i think, you can mill them down thus decreasing chamber volume, I think you can only mill so much tho, and i still don't think it's enuff. higher compression pistons will work as well, thinner head gaskets are another way, it just all depends on how much work you wanna put into it.

Re: good deal on heads?

well i am going to do a mild 305 tbi because i am later down the road going to put in a 350 tbi with alot of mods. What are some good heads to get from a junk yard to get reworked for my 305 with a lt1 cam? i can not find any 305 tpi heads at all, and when i do they are 1986's.

Re: good deal on heads?

id be looking real hard at the world products 305 heads. And then have them ported. Those will take you a lot farther. Then when your done with the 305 stick those heads on a 350 and run a high compression motor.

Re: good deal on heads?

you can also use the 86 heads, a mild 305 will need a new intake manifold anyway, just get one for older heads and tbi, they're not very expensive at all.

the world products torquer 305 heads will definately do very well for him, but they're gonna cost, I think he's trying to go the cheapest route. vortec heads are a popular junkyard performance head.

Re: good deal on heads?

ya tha is what i was going to ask, what abut the vortec heads? is there any 305 ones that will filt on mine? and what cars are they on. And about the 86 heads, so if they are 86 350 tpi heads they will not work? i was think of getting the performer intake to.

Re: good deal on heads?

you said you can only find 86 305 tpi heads, they will work with an intake manifold drilled for older style heads.

Re: good deal on heads?

vin number, if the 8th digit is an "F" then it's 350, anything else is 305 or V6.
