1997 Sierra

ok everyone this is a really simple question and it could be solved by looking under my friend's truck but i really just want to prove him wrong in some way. He drives a 1997 GMC Sierra 2500 and he claims it is Heavy Duty. I was under the impression that both GMC and Chevy put HD after the 2500 on all the heavy duty pick ups. So if anyone knows the answer let me know because it would make me really happy to shut him down. Thanks.

Re: 1997 Sierra

RPO Code F44 is Chassis Heavy Duty which I think defines the HD. Look in the glove box to see if he has F44 on the SPID label.

Re: 1997 Sierra

In the 90's they made a light duty 3/4 ton with 6 hole rims. I guess that would make any of the 8 hole heavy duty by some peoples definition.

It wasn't until about 2001 +/- that they started using the 2500HD as a marketing tool. A good marketing tool in my opinion.

Before that it would depend on the GVWR of the truck or the F44 RPO code like Yukon said.
