Re: a couple questions

Why are you taking the steering column apart?

The EGR valve is attached to the upper plenum, and is slightly behind the throttle body on the drivers side. It mounts with 2 bolts, and there are two gaskets, one between the EGR and the adaptor plate, and one between the adaptor and plenum. You can check the tube that runs to the EGR for carbon blockage, but your EGR is electronic, and most likely has a bad solenoid causing the code 32. The price tag on that bugger is a shock, about $210. AC-Delco part number is 214-5004, just for reference.

Re: a couple questions

Should have clarified more about the steering column. i want to take off the plastic case around the column between the steering wheel and the dash/cluster. every once in a great while a little puff of smoke will come up out of that area. thanks for the reply

Re: a couple questions

That puff of smoke is caused by the grease that lubricates the contact points in the turn signal switch assembly. If you've been having blinker and/or taillamp issues, the switch is going bad (pretty common problem on these cars). The easiest way to access it is to remove the steering wheel. There are two different switch assemblies depending on if your car has the steering wheel accessory controls or not.

Re: a couple questions

The plastic casing around the column looks like it should come of without the steering wheel being removed...is this possible? if not how do i go about removing the steering wheel? and the car is a 92 grand prix not a 90 (typo)

Re: a couple questions

You can access the turn signal switch assembly for inspection by taking the 3 screws out of the bottom of the plastic cover, but it will reqire removal of the steering wheel to replace it, as the steering shaft goes through the middle of the switch itself.
