Airbag SDM module question

I have a '96 Skylark that my son put a aftermarket stereo in. While doing so he thinks he hit a wire with the test light that goes to the SIR system and now the light stays on. The DTC is 24. He says that the SDM is now bad and has found one out of another 96 skylark that was wrecked and the airbags deployed. Would that module be ok to use on this car? Is it just unplug, bolt in and plug in again? Obviously the battery is disconnected now. Please help, the car isn't worth putting a lot of money into but I'd like to get this fixed. Thanks, Jim
