Too late for turbo?
My 240 Is in really nice condition, it has 185000 miles on it. The engine seems to have been well kept. So I want to do an engine swap after I get out of college (about 2 years from now). What I want to know is do you guys think that turboing my car is a bad Idea or not, also I want it all for really cheap like stuff I can MOSTLY get at the salvage yard. Im not looking for a 300 whp beast, just something in the 160-180 whp range. I dont want to put too much boost into the engine, and I want it all for under $1000. I mean I dont have 1G right now but in the future.

Re: Too late for turbo?
nissanfanatic can vouch for this: its all about compression. if the rest of the engine is fine (timing chain, lifters, head gasket..) and you have consistent compression, you should be fine for turbo.. but like you said, it wouldn't be a good idea to push it.. i'd say try 5-7 psi with a small intercooler.. but everything under 1000? i don't doubt it but you might have a tough time

Re: Too late for turbo?
I dont think I could find a COMPLETE turbo setup in the junkyard, but maybe a turbo or some injectors or anything to make things a little less expensive. Maybe I should just keep it n/a until I have a career going and some money.

Nothing like new optimistic college students. Wait until you get out into the real world and your ass is broke still! Unless you picked a good major.

Re: Too late for turbo?
haha, Im not even in college yet, and I will be going to school for collision repair. If I have a place to live, a little food to eat, I can save for car mods. The reason Im broke now is because I just bought my 240.

Re: Too late for turbo?
If you know your stuff and have lots of time to burn, you could build it pretty cheaply, <1000. Just be prepared for tons of modifying.
Look into RX-7 injectors, I think they can be modified to fit, and they're huge I just saw a castiron 240 Turbo Manni go for <100 on ebay last week. t3-t4 flanged. Just start reading, and reading, and reading. And watch ebay!!

Re: Too late for turbo?
Go to a salvage yard get some injectors of a 300zx then find a turbo saab or volvo for the turbo/intercooler. then get some custom piping done from ur local muffler shop.

Re: Too late for turbo?
point-he has a SOHC motor
thats gonna not be easy, but at least its easier to find topmount injectors. find a relatively complete turbo DSM and raid the shit out of it. grab the BOV, turbo, intercooler, random cold and hot pipes if you know how to weld, grab the downpipe and you can use the flange + the flange on your stock header to fab a downpipe. and i hope you know how to weld, or know a custom fab shop. otherwise your turbo mani will have to come from here. http://www.jgstools.com/turbo/ka24et.html

Re: Too late for turbo?
Nah dude, it just sounds like something I should have heard before. It's kind of profound.
I did laugh to myself though, being a christian, I think that's exactly what God did. Back on subject. The listing I found for you on ebay was an anamoly, especially for SOHC motors. There's nothing wrong with the single cam, and if you do your homework, you could build your own kit for cheaper. Plus, when stuff goes wrong, and turboed cars always do, you'll have a better chance of figuring it out than if you'd just bought a kit.
