Belt Questions
How much should it cost to have the serpentine belt replaced on a 99 Dakota 5.2L V8 with AC?
Are Dayco belts any better than other brands? Ive heard that automotive belts currently used will wear but never break. Is this true? |

Don't know about the bigger engine you've got in the Dak but the 318 in my 99 Durango takes all of about 5 minutes to replace. I wouldn't believe anyone who told me a belt wouldn't break. Make sure the replacement belt you get is a cogged belt (small grooves across the width of the belt). They will provide much more life. I use Dayco on all (3) of my Dodges and I've never had any complaints.

If you go to the dealer, probably $100-$125. Dayco is as good as the rest, Goodyear Gatorback is another good one. Always buy the premium grade belt that is offered in any brand. Belts do break. Replace them at the time specified or if they look bad to you. The thing about serpentine belts is they will develop cracks but will run this way for a long time.
