it doesn't start

It used to start but now it wont, I know the belts need to be changed because of the noise it makes when it used to start. The check engine light is on. I dont know where the dipstick is? how should approach this problem, other than taking it to a mechanic$$$$

If you don't know where the dipstick is what makes you think that somehow we can guide to a fix here, what does not start mean, turns over no start or the starter doesn't engage/crank the engine?

I agree. If you don't even know where the dipstick is, take it to a mechanic.
