Electronic Hatch Opener/Closer

How would I go about setting up a system that would allow me to pop the hatch and then hit a switch that would open it, hold it open, and then close it all without human assistance?

Re: Electronic Hatch Opener/Closer

Wouldn't be to difficult, i figure if you can get ahold of a window motor and maybe fashion it to some sort rod that works like an antenna you could make it possible.

Re: Electronic Hatch Opener/Closer

I guess you could probably fasion up a power antenna motor to open it and close it and just use the stock hatch struts to assist it.
Hey Josh, long time no see

The hatch is a little heavier than a window...

You think they build those little motors to be weak? Most have to lift a 5 pound window and do it every day of use through all weather conditions. A simple power window motor would be more than enough if you get enough power to it.

I don't see how a power window motor would be able to lift a hatch, which is significantly more weight then a window. Not to mention the increased stress of the angle AND the longer distance it has to travel.

EDIT:

josh can you please lower the size of your sig pic...it's a full screen almost.

If it's geared properly, like for heavy duty use, then yes it could. Not all window motors are as small as the ones in our eclipses.

Why are we arguing about this again? Someone actually do this who has the time and $400/500 then come back with the evidence.

Re: Electronic Hatch Opener/Closer

The hatch pretty much goes up on it's own after the first couple inches, I bet even a weaker window motor would work if you had it far enough from the hinge so it had leverage.
