4cyl Dokota?

i'm in the market for a used truck. Im on a bit of a budget and I've run into quite a ew 5-speed 4cly dokotas. My concern is that the dokata seems to have a larger body than Rangers or S-10s and I'm worried that the 4cly might be a drag.

Granted I don't need something incredibly fast, but thats not to say that my gas pedal is pushed to the floor most of the time when I drive.

So is ther 4cly pretty crappy? Or with some simple mods, like an Air Intake and so forth is it decent?

No. Try one and you'll see right away how dead they are.

I believe a six cylinder makes sense in a truck that size.

Re: 4cyl Dokota?

I have a 1998 4cyl dakota xt-cab, (124,xxx miles currently). as far as gas mileage, you really do not get any better than the 3.9 v6 does, and yes the 4-banger is a little sluggy, however,it is also a good little engine that is easy to work on and not that bad on parts,I have replaced the timing belt, exhaust manifold gasket, plug&wires, drive belts, radiator and distributer. All repair have been simple and realitivly easy, If I had a choice I would rather have the v6 but when the price is right it is worth a second look!
