94 engine R & R

I have purchased a 94 metro with the 1.0l and the 5 spd. trans. it needs a motor (rings are shot). I plan on getting a JDM engine. What is the easiest way to swap this out? Pull the engine and the trans? or just the engine? What are the basic steps? (remove this 1st, remove that last, dont do this! etc.) What else should be replaced while I'm in there?
Thanks in advance.

Re: 94 engine R & R

you have to remove the engine and trans ass a assembly, its the easiest way to do it.drain the tranny and pull the axles. best way to do that is pull the lower bolt that holds the ball joint to knuckle then pull down on the control arm (wheels off the ground). once thats free you can pop them out of the tranny. you will need to drian the radiator and remove the hoses and unplug the wires and leave harness in car. remove the 2 fuel lines after loosening the gas cap a ways. be carefull as fule lines may have a little pressure when you pull them. remove battery box and other hoses, cables and shifter levers. support engine from top and unbolt the bolts that hold engine/tranny to body, there are 3 large ones. the one on drivers side on tranny has 3 smaller bolts also. once everything is undone you can raise it out the top
