Generator problem?
Saturn SL-1 1997.
Symptoms: weird staticky noise from under the hood while driving. Generator light comes on on dashboard. A few minutes later, lose power steering. Weird static noise happens again briefly. Coolant light comes on for a minute - then goes off. Turn off motor - fan continues to run? What's going on?

most likely you have a dead alternator, less possible a belt problem
