How to Replace Air Filter?

Hey all,

I need to replace my air filter and am looking for advice on what air filter to go with....also if its something i can DIM.

In the order of preference I'd recommend the following:

AC Delco (OEM)
Purolator
Fram (last resort)

The filter is easy to replace. Just pop open the hood and prop up. On the driver's side of engine is the black air box. There are two screws holding the lid on. You can use a cross tip or flat blade screwdriver. Turn counterclockwise until screws are loose. The top of the airbox needs to be lifted up so you can access the air filter to replace. You may need a second person help hold the lid up which will be restricted by the air intake ducting.
It makes it easier to properly install the replacement air filter. Good luck!

Hey, quick question, I bought my car with 60k miles, i replaced the air filter at 100k.....i got 25 miles per gallon average before, now i get 20 mpg, could i have bought a bad filter? I now have 105k and its about 20 mph still.....should I buy a new filter or could somethign else have hurt my mileage? its a 99` 3.4 and I don't beat it.

There was an article was posted here a while ago concerning a test with various air filters and a K&N. The OEM AC Delco performed the best. It had the best airflow and durability. No guarantee that will help but it won't hurt.

When you hit 100K miles, did you change the plugs and wires?

Thanks for the help...that was way too easy I can't believe they charge 19 bucks to buy and install what cost 8 bucks and took 2 minutes.
