ok, i know it was stupid but i was 18 and wanted to get somthing better then my 83 beater truck. i bought this 4 door lebaron with 47000 miles on it, it looked like the show room floor. the older gentleman didn't like the way the transmission shifted so he had a new one put in under warrenty. i had the transmisson completely and utterly die around 56000 and again replaced under warrenty. it worked fine until 86 or 87000 when i was driving along about 60 65 mph when it felt like the tranny down shifted into first. knowing chrysler's reputation i just had it towed home to it's resting spot in my driveway for about 3 months now with no luck on finding a problem like mine. First and formost it trys to move, it really does, i've got it up my driveway a few times, but it took some work. when shifted into gear you can feel it try to go, but it's like the brakes are locked up, but it's not the brakes, i've took them off and tryed it, it's tranny. when running, neutral isn't neutral, it won't move. but shut off it rolls fine in everything accept park. I've been told by a few more auto savy friends that there is a brake inside transmission that is applied somewhere on somthing when the car is in park. is there such thing and can i fix it with out rebuilding a transmission, or will it need to be taken to a dealer ( i don't like them, i'd rather buy a new transmisson then deal with the idiots around here, but if that's the case i'm selling the car broken instead of fixed)
please help i would like to get a little more money out of this car by having it drivable when i sell it! |

Re: 94 lebaron tranny, but it's different then the rest
Well, the park mechanism is in there but it isnot a brake, it is a pin that falls into a slot that holds the carin place. In order to fix that you need to tear it down. ur car must have been made on a monday or a friday.

I would dbl check any shift selinoids. Also, check shifter cable. I had a prob with mine being stretched. It would be in drive and show on the shifter selector on teh dash that it was in 2nd gear. LOL. Cables do stretch / rust / stick. I would check that first.
