Clutchmaster Stage 1 and ACT 12lbs Flywheel

After installing these on my 92 Integ LS, the car just didn't run right. Everytime I engaged on out of 1st, there'd be a lot of vibration and it just doesn't feel like the clutch was grabbing. Well, I ended up bringing the car to my mechanic and the told me that the clearance between the flywheel and the disc was too much and that's what's causing the whole thing not to grab.

Question 1: Is there a compatibility issue between these 2 parts?

Question 2: Will putting on an OEM flywheel fix this?

My mechanic is waiting for an answer as to what I want done. Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 1 and ACT 12lbs Flywheel

is the clutch a full face? Who installed it? Did they lube the input shaft on the tranny? Does it vibrate a lot at high rpm in gear?

I have a few ideas of what might cause it, but i'm not quite sure...It could be that the input shaft on the tranny wasn't greased and is a little dirty, or it could be that whoever put the tranny in, let it hang from the input shaft and slightly bent it...ive seen that one happen before.

I have an ACT11lb flywheel and Exedy 3pk that i installed myself about 3-4 weeks ago so its all still fresh in my mind...if you have questions, post them or PM me.

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 1 and ACT 12lbs Flywheel

I installed it with the help of my brother in law. I do not recall lubing the input shaft because it does not specify it on the HELMS. I looked over the HELMS again to see if I missed that step and I still don't see it.

Yes, it's a full faced clutch. It only vibrates when going from 1st gear or reverse. Once moving, no vibration occurs in between gears.

My mechanic says that the gap between the disc and the flywheel is too big and it will not fully grip on. He also said that there are burn marks or spots on the flywheel.

So...could there be compatibility issues between the CM and the ACT? Sucks to spend all this time an money working on it myself just bring it in to the shop and spend more money on their labor. Point of me doing this myself was to avoid that...but I guess this is all part of the learning process. Any other words of advice word be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 1 and ACT 12lbs Flywheel

Here's a pic of the pressure plate and the disc. The mechanic says that the disc is too sunk in to the pressure plate. He told me that the disc should be a bit higher than the white lip of the plate. This is causing the clutch to slip. What do you guys think? Could this be it? This must be a manufacturer's defect if this is true. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
