Frame Bolts...

I have a 2000 Z71 5.7 4x4 Tahoe and on occassion when I accelerate or come to a stop I hear a sharp squeaking noise. I've changed the u-joints and break pads so I know its not that. Is there any bolts that connect to the frame and body of the vehicle that could cause this too occur? Its been happening for awhile now and is kinda annoying. Thanks for any input on this, Skip

Re: Frame Bolts...

Hey Skip...I don't know if this is what you've got, but I'll let you in on my story. I had a similar sqeak on my 98 Tahoe that started at around 85000. It only made noise on take off...so I went about changing the u-joints, the rear stab links, shocks, springs...pretty much the whole rear suspension(realistically it needed everything anyway). Finally got it to quit. My findings unfortunately were the most expensive kind. The noise, we found, was coming from the front eyelets on the leaf springs. I could usually recreate the noise by bouncing the rear end or rocking the truck side to side. If I put my hand on the eyelet while rocking the truck I could actually feel it shift, and no amount of silicone spray quieted it down any. Once we changed the springs it was smooth(and quiet) sailing, and plus as a bonus the rear end sag was gone and it didn't 'dump' on takeoff anymore. Again I don't know if this is what you've got, but just FYI, it's something to check out. Good luck. Let us know what you find. MM.

Re: Frame Bolts...

Thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure if it would be the leaf springs or not, but I'll definitely check it out. I havn't noticed any sagging in the rear end, but the springs could just be going bad anyway. If it is the leaf springs, did you have a hard time replacing them? Any advice on how to do it? I've had this Tahoe for about three years now and its paid off, so I want to get any defects and repairs necessary for it done now. Its a vehicle I plan on having for a long while. Thanks again for the help, Skip

Re: Frame Bolts...

Hey guys just so that you know unless you need to replace the springs there are mutiple companies that sale just the spring bushing. Moog, spicer, and Energy suspension just to name a few. A hell of a lot cheaper than the complete spring.

Re: Frame Bolts...

Hey, thats a good idea. I'll have to look into that if thats the cause of the problem. Are there any actual bolts from the frame to the body that could cause this problem too? Thanks again, Skip
