Low gas mileage

Ok, I know most of the people on here will be American but I will try to see if I can convert the figures.

I am finding I am getting horrible gas mileage with my 99 Grand Am GT. I don't quite get 400 KMs per tank of gas. So, by my calculations, I get about 230 miles to a tank of gas. I could tell you the size of the tank as I have no idea. So I really don't know how many miles per gallon it is. I would assume that my tank is around 36 litres. Does anyone else get this type of mileage? is this what I should expect? Are there any things I can do to increase mileage significantly?

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Low gas mileage

Is that how many KM/Miles you are getting by running the tank to near dry, or are you filling up before the tank is empty? The tank capacity is approx. 15 gallons. That would be 15.3 miles per gallon, which is pretty low. I usually get 22 or 23 in a mix of city and highway driving on my '99 SE. But if you are filling up when the gauge hits a quarter or a fifth of a tank, you might be running about average depending on your driving conditions.

Re: Low gas mileage

I hav always filled my SE at about 1/4 of a tank, which is usually 10 gal, so if I drove 250mls on that 10(the amount I always fill to) would be around 25 mpg.

Which here of late is has been 230-240 mls on 10 gal, which I think is because of the temps outside fluctuating, warm one day cold the next.

Now my new GT is gettting about 18mpg, needs plugs and wires, maybe some other tuning too, and a CAI.
