Dual Exhaust 88 Caprice
Hey all,
Currently I have an 88 caprice in nice shape, everything is bone stock. I am wondering if people think it would be woth putting on a dual exhaust, and also what people think the price would be for the system. I know that there would not be much in the way of performance enhancement, but I am interested to hear people's opinions. |

Re: Dual Exhaust 88 Caprice
Well, if it is anything like my stock exhaust (8 cylinders pumping into a 2 inch pipe) then true dual exhaust will be a horsepower improvement (not huge, but definately noticable). It may also very slightly improve your gas mileage because of the less amount of back pressure. I like the idea of it, but the cost is the only thing that'd be an issue.
Its many people's opinion that a larger or better flowing exhaust won't do much for a 305, but so far I've hollowed my cat, and replaced the stock muffler with a flowmaster 40 series muffler, and even though its still the same small ass 2 inch pipe theer was definately a noticable performance difference. By my own personal opinion, air flow from the air filter chamber all the way to the tail pipe I'd say is the number 2 biggest killer in power in these cars. The worst would be the low compression heads. But as I said, its only my opinion.

Re: Dual Exhaust 88 Caprice
Yeah, airflow is a killer problem on these cars. With the stock air filter and exhaust, I can't break my tires loose for anything (P255/60R15s). However, with a 40 series flowmaster and an aftermarket drop-base, open-air filter, I can.

Re: Dual Exhaust 88 Caprice
How much am I looking at to hook up true dula exhaust all the way back, with two cats and two nice mufflers? Is that even possible with it being totally custom? I'm not looking to burn up the road, but I would like it to run really nice.
