Intermittent 97 Regal Stalling!!

I have read a few threads on this problem online and I am leaning towards the crankshaft sensor.
In the warmer months my Regal has intermittent stalling problems. It does it at multiple speeds and seems to depend on the temperature outside being warmer. The tach goes to zero and there are times that i can restart immediately with no problems or idiot lights. At other times it can take a minute or two to start. After that it runs like there was no problem. Is this due to the crankshaft sensor not giving the computer info that the crankshaft is turning? I could see where it would cause the computer to shut down spark to the plugs. I have changed out the MAF sensor, and ruled out spark plug wires, fuel filter, and fuel pump. All work fine. Ignition seems to be working fine as there are no other problems with it. I am a young family man with limited funds and I dont want to fix something that isnt broke. Does my logic about the crankshaft sensor seem reasonable?

Re: Intermittent 97 Regal Stalling!!

Looks like a crank position sensor to me. Classic symptoms. The 18X pulse output of the CKPS is flaky which feeds the ICM and the tach.

Part runs around $50 or so and can be replaced DIY. I have a procedure if you would like it.

Not a problem and you're welcome.

Here is the procedure. Its for a Grand Prix but the same process is applicable to a Regal. Pay special attention to the proper bolt size for the harmonic balancer puller. Also, the balancer bolt is torqued to 110 ft-lbs plus 76 degrees after the sensor is replaced. Good luck!
