na man you need b-series mounts before you can do anything else. You should read up about swaps. Is it a b18c1?

Re: '89 CRX motor SWAP help!!
i don't know what the engine code is but its a 1.6 litre so i'm pretty sure it's not the b18, i do know that it has 127hp though. >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acura_EL i've tried to look up the engine code for it all over but i can't find it... and what if i do get the B-series mounts, then can it work?

Re: '89 CRX motor SWAP help!!
I bet it's the same as the Civic EX engine d16y8 1.6L SOHC vtec ~130hp. If so, it should bolt right up. You will need to wire up vtec by either an rpm activated switch and/or VAFC or go OBD1 with a p28 ecu. The d16y8 engine is OBD2 but you can use the OBD1 sensors...
Also, the tranny will work but you'll need a cable to hydro conversion or just use the one currently in your CRX.

Re: '89 CRX motor SWAP help!!
won't the vtec automatically work if i get the matching ECU to the engine, possibly from the same guy? and can you go into more detail about the whole tranny situtation? what type of tranny does my CRX have, and what exactly do i gotta do to match up the EL one?

Re: '89 CRX motor SWAP help!!
No because your stock wiring harness does not include the wires for the vtec solenoid and pressure switch. And no, putting an acura harness will definately not work...

Re: '89 CRX motor SWAP help!!
CRX has a cable clutch tranny. OBD2 Acura has hydraulic clutch tranny. A CRX Si tranny is supposedly better for vtec because of the short gearing, but I believe the DX tranny is similar minus the final drive.
