Re: odometer and cruise control stopped working
Does the speedometer work fine? Do you have the Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV)?
The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) could cause both of these issues, but I would expect the speedometer to not work as well. You might also have a grounding issue or bad flex assembly on the instrument cluster. There have been a couple of threads about bad flex assemblies recently. -Rod |

Re: odometer and cruise control stopped working
hey Rod,
no I dont have flex fuel and the speedo works fine. the problem w/ the odometer started after my last fill up when I reset the trip clock. I checked the ground on my batt. the other day when checking fuses it didnt have a good connection i think i got that fixed permanantly. thanks man ,Baldhead |

Re: odometer and cruise control stopped working
Sounds like the odometer is probably a mechanical issue. Just for the heck of it, try pressing the trip meter reset button completely one or two more times. I've seen before where if I didn't fully depress the reset, the odometer would zero or usually not quite zero out and fail to record distance. Simply pressing the reset again completely would solve that problem.
Good luck! -Rod |

Re: odometer and cruise control stopped working
If you feel like tracing the schematic, I can e-mail you the pages for 1998. If you want them, send me a private message with an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments. Also, please include a sentence with your request so I don't have to try to remember who requested what.
Have you verified that the cable to the throttle body is not broken? Also, there should be a brake pedal switch for the cruise separate of the switch for the brake lights. You may want to make sure the switch works and wiring to it is good. -Rod |

Re: odometer and cruise control stopped working
I re-read your original post and see that the indicator does not even come on for the cruise, so even if the cable linkage is broken, that wouldn't explain the indicator not even illuminating.
Do the buttons on the steering wheel feel normal? Ie: can you feel a positive detent when you press the "on" and "off" buttons? At the speed control module, check for battery voltage at pin 5 (light green wire). If you don't have battery voltage, now check for continuity to ground. Checking for battery voltage is just so you won't burn up your meter if you were to check for continuity when there is battery voltage present. If you have definite ground potential at that terminal (switch input for speed control module) that is probably why your cruise control will not turn on. You proabably have a bad switch that is always shorted to ground. -Rod |
