94 Lumina code 32

My '94 gives a check engine light when you first decelerate on the freeway. It resets when you restart the car and again will come on the first time you decelerate on the freeway. It reads code 32. I installed a brand new EGR. No change. Any ideas would be appreciated. BP

Make sure the egr passages are clean, try to manually operate it and see if it stalls or gets real rough at idle.

I cleaned the passages with carb/choke cleaner when I replaced the EGR. I will try manually operating it after work as you suggest.

Re: 94 Lumina code 32

Your EGR valve is a 3 solenoid electronic valve, so it can't be operated by hand.

Good point Rich, missed that one. You would have to ground the constantly powered solenoids to confirm the passages issue, even then it is hit or miss whether a small amount of restriction could set a code.

Re: 94 Lumina code 32

Someone told me a new aftermarket EGR could be the problem, but it did look identical to the original. Also does the intake manifold need to be removed to properly clean the passages? Could the EGR solenoid be bad? Where is it at? Thanks so far, BP

Re: 94 Lumina code 32

The tube that runs to the rear exhaust manifold and the adaptor that bolts the EGR to the intake are separate from the upper plenum and can be cleaned independently.
