Won't Idle
I have a 1993 Chevy 1500 V6 2wd and within the last few weeks it just will not idle. I can drive it as long as I keep the RPMs above 1000. I've changed the idle senser on the throttle body and that worked for a few days and then the problem started again. I have to start it with starting fluid and rev the engine, and when I get to a stop, I have to put it in N and keep the RPMs up and then try to "feather" the throttle when I put it in gear. Can anyone help me out? I really don't want to spend a ton of money to fix this.

Re: Won't Idle
First off, you should post in the full size forum :P. Is it a throttle body engine? If it is, the base gaskets usually go bad and suck air which could cause problems at idle.

Re: Won't Idle
Why not just adjust the idle up some on the throttle body so that it idles fine. You will burn slightly more gas but won't have the hassle of putting in neutral and keeping the idle higher. On the 99 I used to have there was an adjuster screw on the throttle body that could be adjusted with an allen wrench so just start it and adjust it until the idle smooths out.

Re: Won't Idle
I can't adjust the idle, There is no screw there. Its all set up at the factory.
Now I let it sit a few days and then it started and ran for a while and then sputtered out. |

Re: Won't Idle
try new air cleaner. adjust choke. maybe you can use muffler tape and penny arounf throttle lever where it rests against stop, to hold it out hair more for higher idle ?
with it idling, spray somethign like wd40 around carb bottom. if a gasket leak sucking air, sucking the spray should speed rpm up. if leaking, change gasket or try a heat tolerant sealant. ?
