87 beyond repair

Well it is as I feared. My 87 is far beyond repair. Right now it could go at any moment. It would cost more to fix it then to buy a new (used) car. So does anyone know of a place where I could look for another 87 or 86 caprice for purchase. I tried Ebay, but there are none within my price ranger or within my distance range to buy.

Re: 87 beyond repair

Well she is still kicking. She is on life support (1 quart of oil a day), due to the severity of the leak she's got now. I don't know what happened, all I know is I let my brother borrow the car and it comes back leaking over a quart a day. This comes at a bad time since I already ordered my non-refundable rebuild kits. They are non-refundable because I got them through my work which bought them from their diesel vendor. He had to go through a lot to get them so he said no returns....This is why I am looking for something to replace and use the kits on.

Re: 87 beyond repair

Sounds like you need to R&R you brother.

Find out where the oil leak is coming from. At a quart/day, it should be asy to find.

There's no car that cannot be fixed. Money is the limfac, but realize that the car has zero value before you work on it, so zero should be your starting point.

What's the car worth to you?

Re: 87 beyond repair

That really sounds like it could be as simple as an oil sending unit........ I would look it over before i trash it!

Re: 87 beyond repair

Right now I go through 2 quarts a week (5 day week) and all it is is my oil pan gasket. I've reserved an entire week in april to work on my car fixing the oil leak, replacing the tranny, finally putting on the headers anbd dual exhaust. But needless to say my point is that to agree with the posts above. I gaurantee it can be fixed. Could be a sending unit, rear or front main seal, oil pan gasked, hell it could even be a lose oil filter. I say try to fix it before trashing selling or keeping the car.

Re: 87 beyond repair

Well, I checked and apparently it was the sending unit, but it was odd because the line the oil was taking was ending and falling off the car about 5 inches away from it instead of just straight down. That is what was throwing me off.
