350 Olds into 260Z??
So I am doing this swap. I got an olds 350 engine and auto tranny from a 79 caddy seville and went to put it in my 260z. Well I'm following this books I got from JTR for the Chevy 350 swap, but none of the mounts are the same. UGGGG I didnt do my homework on the diffrence between the two engines! SO.....
Has anyone done an OLDSMOBILE 350 swap into a Z car?

Re: 350 Olds into 260Z??
I differ from some people when it comes to this subject. This is merely my
![]() Dude...why? Come on, man...an Oldsmobile engine into a Z car? Now I've heard everything...putting a domestic V8 into a Z car is bad enough...but an Olds engine...jeez. I guess people will throw whatever they have layin around into a Z. I'm waiting to see someone put an old Vtec Civic engine in a Z...I guess that's what's next...

umm last I heard, an olds 350 was a domestic v8... you're prolly gonna have to custom fabricate motor mounts, but I'm with LLZ on this one, why not go with a sc'd nissan v8 from like a pathfinder or something (granted I do understand that you already have the engine and tranny from the olds).

LLz, you said putting a domestic v8 in a z is bad enough, but an olds... making it sound like it wasn't the average domestic v8

Re: 350 Olds into 260Z??
Meh, anything you can do to a smaller engine you can do to a larger engine and get for doing it. Especially now that turbo kits for 350 Chevy motors are becoming cheap and reliable. I forget who the manufacturer was was but they were making something like 700rwhp at 12 psi.
Besides the Olds motor into the old school Z is bound to be a hell of a lot easier than any newer Nissan V8. No complex ECU to worry about, no fuel injection, no thick wiring harness to mate up to a much simpler electrical system.

Re: 350 Olds into 260Z??
OK..... So not very helpfull. Thanks for all the posts on how I shouldnt be putting an Olds 350 in a Z. BTW. It's from a Caddilac if you didn't notice that in the forst post. And second, MANY MANY people do the Chevy 350 swap. That swap is like changing the tires on your car it is so popular.
Anyway, my question was if anyone had done it. NOT what does eveyone think about it. I got the car for free, the caddy for 200 bucks. Im going cheap here people!! If I had it MY way I would have ordered a complete GTR front clip with the RB26DETT and R200 rear end and do it up right. BUT im NOT made of money. And YES I do know all about Z Cars. Nissan to be exact. I have owned many from the Datsun 2000 Roadster to the 240,260,280,280ZX and 300. So thanks for all the insight into the differences between a "Domestic" engine and a true to form Nissan engine. LOL.

Anyway, Wildside, I would start with the 350 chevy swap guides and go from there. Sounds like you already got a pretty good bead on that so now it's on to figuring what you can modify and what you'll have to make. How far are the Olds and the Chevy mounts off? If they are at least in the same ballpark then you might be able to use some 3/8" or 1/2" plate steel from a scrap yard and extend the mounts toward each other. What kind of tools and skills do you have at your disposal? See if there is a local shop that could weld some mounts up cheap. I'm pretty sure you are the pioneer on this particular combo so you're going to have to figure alot of this out on your own. I would start with a list of everything you need to swap a 350 chevy and see how much of that applies to the Olds motor. If it starts to pile up and looks like it will cost alot to make or buy the parts needed to make it fit, it might be worth it to sell the olds motor and buy and Chevy, you can usually find one in decent condition for fairly cheap. If you can post some more specifics then I might be of some more help. All I can do for you right now is general advice.

Re: 350 Olds into 260Z??
Thank you. Now thats more like what i was looking for. Stuff like, "yes the olds starter is on the other side facing forward" or "hey how far off are those mounts"
Broke_as_**** has the right i dea here, help people. I will try to post some pics of the engine mounts, I think that is where I will run into the most problems. As far as skills and tools, I have all the basics. A welder but no metal working tools; ie: Benders, drill press, etc... But I think given the right direction I could use my cutoff wheels and cobble together a mount or two. The other areas im concerned with would be the clearence issue near the firewall. I hoping someone had the details on this. Oh well. like you said I must be the first. DAMN! Hate being a beta tester LOL.

Re: 350 Olds into 260Z??
Well you might be the Beta tester for a 350 olds in a Z car but I'm pretty sure someone somewhere has swapped a chevy for an olds or olds for a chevy. Put some posts up in the Chevy and Olds sections and you might get lucky and find someone with more working knowledge of the two motors. If you can get the differences between the two nailed down then you should be able to move forward with the Chevy swap guides that you have.
