passlock??????

i disconnected my battery and after i reconected it i cant get it to start. I think the security sestem has shut of the fuel delivery system or something. Does anyone know of a way i can avoid having to go to the dealership? Please help. This situation is really starting to piss me off.

Re: passlock??????

There's a couple different ways, I've always just put the key in the ignition, turned it forward to the "run" position (where the radio should turn on and the blower vents) and leave it sit there for 20mins so the computer has ample time to recognize the key. If that doesn't work I heard of another way but never tried it myself:

"Answer
Since you changed the ignition lock, I will give you programming procedures. Turn the ignition on for 10 minutes. Turn off and turn to ON for another 10 minutes. Turn off and repeat the process for 10 minutes more. The lock should now be coded for the car. "

It's a frustrating problem, every car is a bit different. I used to work for GM's roadside assistance, they definitely have the fix to the passlock issue, call the 800 number and tell them you need to know the passlock reset fix they should be able to help you. I haven't worked there for like 3 yrs so I don't remember how it goes exactly.

thats why this forum is here. i've built a few cars in my day, a 40 ford w/65 mustang underneath, a 70 chevelle ss clone, but the new cars and all the electrinic cross links to mechanical combo's stump me.
another good source, that costs for a subscription, is alldatadiy. many many good diagrams, how to's and what a shop/dealership should take to do it vs diy.
when all else fails, buy a cup of coffee for blazee, old master, or a couple others that have helped me. can't beat the advise.

Re: passlock??????

Are you sure its the PK2 system at fault? Just unhooking the battery shouldn't make it disable the fuel system. Turn the ignition and check to see if you have fuel pressure at the rail. Also, double check the nuetral safety switch.

try www.alldatdiy.com, it is an annual subscription and you get unlimited use for 1 vehicle for troubleshooying, ass/disassembly, what a shop will do, recalls, bulletins, manufacturer's dat, etc. first year is like 29 USD, second yearand beyond 1/2 price. if you sell the vehicle, i think you can change , but check the web page for full details this forum and alldatdiy have helped the most.

Re: passlock??????

I fixed it. dropped a new battery in and cleaned the wire terminals and she cranked right up. I couldn't believe it. tested the old battery and it was making about 11 volts. good thing that is all it was.

i don't know where you live, but down here in the capital of south america(south florida) the first thing a yankee is taught that is the truth is that with car/trucks with electronic ignitions is get a new battery every 2 years because of the humidity and salt in the air eat them up. i had the same thing happen up north. battery read 11 volts, but found it wouldn't pull enough amps to satisfy the computer to turn over. good catch.
