Finally, my first race!

Well how you doin guys? Im new in this thread so it's nice to meet other racers with more experience. I'm 16, I don't even have a license yet, but I finally got into my first street race this past Sunday. I have a little Dodge Neon, I know it's not much but at least i have a car. It's not fixed up or anything but I'm still proud of it. I was driving it on the highway to do errands for my dad, when this supposedly fixed up Honda Civic came up next to me and he wanted to race because I looked like an easy prey. So, I give him the signal to race and we both hit it. Me and him were nose to nose on the highway swirving past cars doing 80. Then we picked up, and then did 100. I was realizing that I was passing him through traffic, and I was surprised how natural it felt racing past cars. I was doing about 110, when he let off and I kept going for 5 more seconds. I slowed down and honked at him and waved. I was proud of racing for the first time. Maybe I can race a few more times this weekend or something

Re: Finally, my first race!

That's great that you're proud of your race and winning and all that. But you should probably get a license first. Also, you should definitely stop speeding like that in traffic; especially in a Neon. An inexperienced driver maxing out a non-modified car may seem cool at the time, but it's not exactly a wise habit to get into.

Re: Finally, my first race!

I'm going to get my license in two more weeks. My Neon is slow but i'm thinking of getting a cobra next year. It's just i turned 16 last week. My father used to race in his 69 Chevelle SS, 81 Camaro Berlinetta, 88 Iroc, and his 94 Mustang GT. All of his cars he fixed up and made them pass 140, with an exception of the Mustang which topped out at 135. He showed me how to drive badass since i was 5 years old doing donuts, reverse 180's, regular 180's, 160's, sliding, and a little bit of drifting. He also increased my reverse driving skills last year by putting me in a small alley. My Neon is slow cuz its governed down and its a 4 banger. Im getting a V-8 next year. Anyone wants to give me advice on racing?

Re: Finally, my first race!

sounds like you have all the advise that you would need at your finger tips. ur dad can help you familiarize yourself with the car, and basically just dont go out thinking you know everything in the world when u start up. otherwise i dont thnk many of us or your dad would be happy about the big wings and coffee cans....

Yeah.. here's some advice.. if you're planning on taking a Cobra to 140 through traffic just shoot yourself now.. it's faster and doesn't kill anyone else.

drive careful, its not only cars that can be re-called by their makers. You can replace cars, but you can't replace someones life, just keep that in mind and be smart out there

Probably wasn't your best move. If I can give you one tip on racing that you would hold true to would be to never race while endangering others. It's your choice to take the risk and that risk shouldn't be placed upon others who are just out driving.

To the poster, can I give you some life advice. One day you'll wake up and realise that 16 year olds do the dumbest shit. You'll realise that "being cool" dies with High School or you end up "keeping it real" flipping burgers.

Hopefully, you'll live to that age.

Do people never see the connection between rich/successful people always telling stories about how they were beaten up or shunned in high school for not being "cool"?

Re: Finally, my first race!

I know that I can't be going fast. I didn't want to race but temptation got the best of me. Before I race again, I'll get my license, and practice my skills for a year secretly from my dad. I'm going to be mature about it and not look for a race every weekend like other punks do. I'm not going to race for a while. THNX for the advice guys. If my dad found out, I'd get my ass kicked. Thgnx for the advice though.

You calling me a punk because i look for a race every weekend or soo?...i think a punk is someone who trys to race everything he see's in hes rusted 88 civic si and swerves in and out of traffic going way over the limits dangering others lifes... this being said i would like to take a min to say good by to a coach from my school that has recently pasted away due to "punks" in neons racing heres the story simpathy goes out to the family. *hope everyone learns a lesson if your going to street race...make sure your only putting your life on the line not others.

Re: Finally, my first race!

I meant punks that are teenagers unless you're a teenager. If you are a teen, then you're a punk. I told you i wasn't going to race till i got more experience. All right so sorry if i hurt your feelings. Now about your transam, whats it top out at. As a matter of fact what does everyone's car top out at?
