Injectors

How hard is it to clean the fuel injectors? 5.3L. Can I do this myself?

Re: Injectors

i would say if they are clogged beyond what the "shit u add to your gas tank" can do then u should have it done by someine qualified.those openings are very precise and if they get enlarged or the opening even gets tweaked a little bit the fuel wont come out right and wont atomize properly

Re: Injectors

as long as its designed for fuel injected engines and u have the correct amount of fuel in the tank to dillute it u should be fine. if the engine is running that poorly tho it may be smart to have it checked out proffessionally

Re: Injectors

you should be good with the fuel additives, however if it does not improve, then I would have it checked out by a professional.

Re: Injectors

I've never had the guts to try it, but there are some past threads on acetone as an additive...might want to go back and do some reading on it.

As far as I'm concerned the "pro" route is the only way to go if you value your vehicle. Since you're not running real bad the commercial additives couldn't hurt. I think I've even seen a GM branded additive at the stealership.

Re: Injectors

From the many posts I have seen, Acetone has not done much to improve anything unless you have a carbed system.

Re: Injectors

It always seemed to me like the recommended dilution rates for the acetone posts was going to produce a concentration that would do little or nothing...other than lighten the wallet $8 or so for lab grade acetone.

I do have my step daughter's Mercury Sable out here right now with some serious injector fouling. She runs on fumes all the time. Since the car is not worth much, and was paid for by me, and will no doubt have to be replaced by my greenbacks...it might be fun to to experiment on it. And it might also be fun to see it go up in flames if I goof.

On these engines oil addittives bad, fuel addittives good. Every three months, i put a double dose of the concentraited in and it cleans it out ..jj
