Transmission Fluid Tube Replacement

I have a 97 S-10 4WD 4.3L. I recently checked the transmission fluid and it had metal fakes inside. I checked the transmission tube and it is rusting on the inside. I know this year has moisture problems in the trannie and especially in the dipstick.

Given this, has anyone removed one? Any tricks. This is not covered in Haynes manuel. I attempted it for a few hours, but I cannot get to or see the bolt that mounts to the trannie. Any help on how to get this done would be very much appreciated.

I am going to give it a try tomorrow.

Re: Transmission Fluid Tube Replacement

Long extension 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 ft long and a good wobble socket.
And a good idea to disconnect the battery when doing it.
Sometimes you can lower back of transmission/transfer case and get to it better.
And do not forget to service transmission filter and fluid if it has not been done.

Re: Transmission Fluid Tube Replacement

Echo what MT-2500 said. The mount arm goes to one of the trans-to-engine bolts. I use a 3 foot 1/2 drive to 3/8 drive extension and an 18 MM swivel socket from underneath. Tough to see and get to and the tube is a pain to get out. You have to wiggle and turn it to get it out. Good luck!

Re: Transmission Fluid Tube Replacement

Thank you both for your comments. I ordered the part and am going to attempt it tomorrow. I will drop the tranny because I was looking up and down the dipstick and I could not see any bolt, from either the bottom or top. Hopefully with the tranny dropped I will have a better view.

Thanks again.
