Hey guys, I just posted a couple weeks ago explaining bad gas like symptoms maybe related to a bad O2 sensor. I think the sytems I have are not related at all though. I'm leaning towards a worn clutch plate and pressure plate. Have any of you experienced this problem in an aged (1995 GXE w/ 158,000) max. I would love to get your input on what symtoms I should be looking for or if there is a way to diagnose without tearing the car apart.
Thanks for any help guys. |

Slipping -symptom: steady 50mph, last gear, push pedal...rpm rises with no effect on speed. |

Re: Manual Transission issues?
The rubber boots are done thanks. My max doesn't slip at 50 when I punch it. It is more so in first and second gear on acceleration. Is this maybe because the transmission is not bad enough, or is it maybe another problem like bad cylinder compression?

Re: Manual Transission issues?
The clucth plate has still wearing surface left. On accel as wheels are not slipping you can see rpm rise according pedal push. If so, change clutch.

Re: Manual Transission issues?
Thanks...I'm leaning towards that being the problem, I just want to make sure before I invest. Another suttle symptom I'm noticing is when I am in gear and have released the clutch, if I let up on the gas pedal and then push it again, it feels as though it grabs or jerks a bit. Does that fall in line with what we're talking about?

Re: Manual Transission issues?
...just a little addition. When I switch gears I hear a little noise in the engine/trans area, like I can hear it switching gears. Could be an unrelated problem, but it's a fairly new noise to me.

The other issue may be 'tired' engine mounts [6.], hard to diag online. Try push/pull with hands from the engine, should feel rather rigid. Compare to a new vehicle... Some DIY fill the mounts with urethane, some buy new. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/23
