BAD SHIFTING...new clutch or tranny problem?

First off, I will not make this long and grammatically messed up...I know that is annoying.

Basically I have a 95 GSX manual with 105k. I put in a used ACT 2600 that had about 20,000 miles on it. Friend said the stock flywheel was in better condition than the clutchs flywheel so we just kept the stock one in there.

4 months pass.

I am accellerating from a light..and in between first and second wihle the clutch is down...it SOUNDED like the pressure plates collapsed...and it grinded in gear and the clutch has been light ever since. (because of the stock parts left in there?)

But ever since, the grinding has grown increasingly worse. It grinds a lot when the clutch is all the way down.. It NEVER goes into reverse without pressure and bad grinding..even when the car is off.

Is this a tranny problem or a clutch problem???

(we threw in a new swap of synchromesh but it didn't do anything, that's why I figured it's the clutch)

its your clutch, its not releasing all the way so you probably bent something or something like that

Hey, I should do that with my crank and take a picture of it. lol

Is the crank still good after crankwalk or is it ruined?

Re: BAD SHIFTING...new clutch or tranny problem?

from what I understand if your motor crankwalks all it is is a main bearing that went out but it happens to be the thrust bearing so usually when it happens it takes as much shit out with it as possible.

Re: BAD SHIFTING...new clutch or tranny problem?

Well, hopefully we caught it soon enough to save as much stuff as possible cause I'm sure somebody will need the good parts during a basic rebuild sometime...

Re: BAD SHIFTING...new clutch or tranny problem?

I highly doubt it is crankwalk...I mean..I realize that happens with the 2600..but I have travelled from Michigan to Georgia like 14 times since I put it in..could CW occur even after all that?? Should i put in a 2200 instead???

I just like burning all 4 tires

It could happen... I drove mine back and forth from college like that and it never showed any signs of CW. Its a slow process that is unreversable... I doubt switching your clutch out now would save it if it is... If its gonna happen it'll happen no matter what clutch is in it, although heavier ones don't help it any.

Just think, if it is CW then you can join the 2g 6 bolt group like I get to. lol
