A/C Leak

I have an '01 X with a freon leak. I just recharged it (should hit 90 today) but the last 3 times I have recharged it's gone in 2-4 days. I've used the stuff with the yellow dye in it and can't find a thing. Does anyone have a suggestion or have you had a sim problem? I've read that the hose from the condensor to the radiator is notorious for breaking but mine is fine or at least I think so....

Thanks in advance!

Re: A/C Leak

When my high-pressure hose (between compressor and the condensor (in front of the radiator) went, I could see the oil that had wicked into the rubber portion of the line quite clearly. The leak was apparently from the metal crimp towards the compressor end where the rubber starts.

Re: A/C Leak

IF you have the yellow dye in the system and there are no visible leaks on the condenser , compressor , receiver dryer , or any of the lines.. there is only one thing left that you can't check with your eye unless you take it out, and thats the evaporator. Hope i have been helpful. GL

Re: A/C Leak

Thanks, I also have an update, I was driving yesterday and turned on the A/C and it was "hissing" from the center vents. It's done this before but only when it is nearly out of freon and no longer blowing cold air. Any chance that could be my leak?

Thanks again

Re: A/C Leak

Just an FYI... Alot of Xterra owners, including myself, have had leaks from the AC top hose. Seems to be a chronic problem with Nissans.

Same problem with mine (2000) at about 59000 miles. Fixed under extended warranty. Now I have another problem as seen in my other post.

Angry Re: A/C Leak

I own a 2002 Xterra and when the ac quit cooling I notified and set up an appointment to remedy. They said the high pressure hose was the usual culprit and it would cost from $400 - $600. Sure enough it was the high pressure hose leaking where the metal portion meets the rubber portion of the hose, apparently an inherent design flaw.

The more research I did, the more I found out that this is a common very problem. My question is...if it is so common that it can be diagnosed over the phone, then why isn't Nissan helping to offset the cost of repair? I paid around $24,000 for my X with options, and feel that if Nissan knows that this is a recurring problem...then they should either have a recall to remedy it; or provide some restitution ($) or relief to the consumer. I asked if the hose had been "improved" and was told that they were replacing it with an identical part @ $112.00! Look for another repair in about another 4-5 years or so!

Re: A/C Leak

I have the same problem, but not severe enough to spend the cash to fix it.

Re: A/C Leak

I replaced mine myself, about as easy a job as they come. Though I didn't put a vacuum on the system when recharging it, it works just fine.
