2000 Windstar transmission TSB 99-16 sticker

So I'm under the Windstar getting ready to dump the tranny fluid and I notice a sticker on the tranny pan that says " refer to TSB 99-16 before servicing". Does anyone out there know what TSB 99-16 is all about? And, are the 2000 Windstar trannys as failure prone as many seem to think?

The TSB just lists some basic diagnosis steps for the transmission and directs dealers to a toll free number to call for additional service direction.

Thanks for the reply lewisnc100. It sounds like a no-never-mind for a simple fluid change. I guess I just got spooked after hearing all of the Windstar tranny horror stories on this and other forums.

Hi...have a 2000 windstar, sometimes goes into overdrive and sometimes not. is it a sensor.?..where an i post this for everyone to see?

Hello aehegney - I suggest doing a search for "transmission" first, and then pose your question by starting a new thread if that fails.

It also means the factory warranty limits were extended slightly, but not enough to really do any good.

If the OD is intermittent with no other apparent shifting trouble, you may have an electrical issue with the top connector to the valve body, spool sticking, or the neutral safety switch may be intermittent. There are several other, more obscure possibilities, but those seem to be the common problems.

A fluid change with a clean filter is a good start. If you're industrious, you can install a drain plug in the pan near the magnet end to make future changes a much cleaner and easier task.
