I want torque
first of all, i love AF. i have been loosing sleep reading through all tha threads. i just got my verry first civic, a 2000 ex. im not sure what engine comes with it. i think i'll look into that tomorrow. anyway, horsepower is good but i really want low end torque more than anything. where do i begin?

you have the D16Y8 motor with 127 HP and 107 ft/lbs of torque. The first things that I would suggest would be I/H/E. Intake, header, and exhaust. Those are the most common first mods, simple bolt ons. They should give you about 15 hp.

i have to admit that you did find the biggest fault with hondas very quickly though. people all over this board have been looking for ways to effectively increase the amount of low-end in our motors. once our cars rev high enough we can be pretty quick. but until then we are screwed. the i/h/e setup will help out, but you do need to learn how to take advantage of horsepower, rather than torque.

If you plan on getting a catback with your exhaust keep in mind you will loose your bottom end inorder to gain your top end.

i was thinking, or actually i was told that if i did an intake, intake manifold and a bigger fuel rail i could get around 80 hp. as for the loss of low end with a cat back, is that because i'll be dropping back pressure?

Whoever told you that you were going to get 80hp from intake, IM, and fuel rail is extremely misinformed and I suggest you never listen to anything that they say ever again! An intake manifold will give you around 8hp.

if you want torque sell your Civic now and buy something with a decent sized motor. Like an Accord V6 or TL, or Trans Am or something.
