Has anyone ever actually solved the starting problem?
My 93 GC has intermittent starting problems that I know are alarm related.
It will start then die about a second later - repeatedly cycling as long as you hold the key in the start position. This is a no-start condition that i am pretty sure is caused by the alarm system because when I force the alarm to trigger then deactivate it with the key (lock doors with window down - wait for it to arm, reach in and manually unlock the drivers door - open it, the alarm sounds and then I reset with key) this "cycle" always clears the no-start condidion and the truck will start every time.
My Dealer cant figure it out. They replaced a door lock sensor, some connectors, and after the first $750 they then said "lets throw an $850.00 body control module at it and see if that fixes it" when I asked if they were going to pay for it if it didnt fix it, they said nope, so I said NO Thanks. (It didnt help in the confidence dept. that the mechanic left his screwdriver rolling around in the door the first time, and didnt test the results after replacing the lock module. When we went to pick it up, the security light was on when we started it)
I am thinking there must be some other wiring or sensor issue that is making the computer think that the alarm has been compromised in the first place.
Trouble is I have no idea where to start looking or what to look for. Does the computer give codes telling where the faults are detected? I assume one needs a code reader etc?
Im about ready to just unplug the chime module and see if that will simply keep the thing from arming; but I live in a bad neighborhood - it would be nice to still have the alarm functional.
PS - If the chime module is unplugged will that really totally disable the alarm? I may just go with an aftermarket system.
***Additional information: from another post I saw how to dump some codes - check engine flashes 5 + 5 which I think means no codes? and the OD light flashes 15 times repeatedly. However i thought I also saw codes of 5, 10 and 12 flashes on this lamp at least once but couldnt repeat it. Once the check engine light finishes its second set of 5, the security light comes on and the OD led flashes. Strangely enough once I opened and closed the drivers door during this test It quit and I couldnt repeat it. (This was the door we replaced the lock solenoid and wiring connectors in.)
