Rear Shock Replacement

My rear shocks have a small black hose that goes to some kind of small pump ( auto leveling system?). I hear it kick on for a few seconds when I start car. Was thinking about replacing with Monroe replacements and was wondering if that pump will take care of the air needed or do I need to run other lines. Hope I can Get some feedback from you guys who did this one. I did front stuts last month. And Ball Joints next week if you got adjice about that too. Thanks.

Talking Re: Rear Shock Replacement

I dont know what "Monroe replacements" are, but if they are standard type shock absorbers, they will fit you RIviera.

Autoleveling system consists of air pads that sit on top or above your socks. They are filled with air when you car is loaded, to raise the rear and level it out.

I dont know why you dont hear them working or are unsure, but when mine are on you can hear it and rear passenger feels the vibration perhaps somethings wrong

Re: Rear Shock Replacement

The monre air shocks are the only one listed for 97' and the original ones look like some sort of air shock. The question I had was :could the old system be hooked up to monre air shocks? Thought maybe someone who had changed them would know.

Re: Rear Shock Replacement

It looks like the "Monroe" replacement strut for the Riviera has a threaded fitting in leiu of the snap on type used on the AC Delco. Below is a link for ACDELCO Part # 504547, direct replacement air struts if you prefer them;

Re: Rear Shock Replacement

why are you replacing the rear shocks? if the car isnt auto leveling and the pump runs constant it could be a bad pump. if you just want a better ride quality go with the stock delco's(provided your shocks are leaking air) and if you want to handle better get some rancho F250 adjustable shocks (yes they fit the 95-99 riviera with a little modification) go to regalgs.org if you want to se it done.
