spoiler suggestions?

I cannot decide on a spoiler for my 03 black 2 door cavy. I don't care if people think it looks rice. I know it has to have shape to it. No thin metal. So that means eitehr platic, fiberglass, or CF. obviously cf is the best, but i don;t know if i or the car is ready to go there yet as there are no other major mods like lowering, wheels and tires, or body kit yet. I want something low 8-10 inches, but not a lip spoiler. Nothing to flashy, but something functional. Been thinking about the 3d cf gt wings on ebay. any suggestions

Re: spoiler suggestions?

you will never find a "functional" spoiler for a Cavalier, as front wheel drive cars generally do not need increased rear downforce.

In my personal opinion, any spoiler other than a stock spoiler is going to look silly on an otherwise stock car.

Re: spoiler suggestions?

A spolier can still be functional on a front wheel drive car. the down force will prevent some fishtailing or hydroplaning.

Re: spoiler suggestions?

yea but a spoiler dosnt even come into effect till like 80-100 MPH does it? u need alot of wind 2 create any downforce and at those speeds whos gonna fishtail? and any speed above 30 mph hydroplans depending on your tire but the spoiler wont help you stop hydroplaning

Re: spoiler suggestions?

well, i am not sure, any maybe i am thinking to much of what i learned in school about wind and building shaped. But i would have to think that shape of an airfoil works because of its shape and the differances in the speeds and routes of the moving air. and that speed would increase this affect, but would think that moderate speads in a car 40-70 miles/hour, would create some downforce. but i might be wrong. So if i am the reason for a spoiler is because i think the back end of the cav looks like a flat unfinished shelf and needs something to balance out the look from the side.

Re: spoiler suggestions?

Street cars aren't really designed for a spoiler to be functional. I added a stock spoiler to my car some years ago and felt no difference in fishtailing and such.

Re: spoiler suggestions?

If you want to create downforce and reduce "hydroplaning" in the rear, add some weight in the trunk.A 50lb bag of speedi Dri will be far heavier than any downforce.

Re: spoiler suggestions?

That cobalt 2dr unlit tuner style looks pretty good. I may have to pick one of those up.

if you're going to make a fast/sharp enough turn to actually cause your car to fishtail, a spoiler isnt gonna do shit
weight and tires would be the cure to that problem

Re: spoiler suggestions?

I've looked at a couple of wreckers and haven't found any of interest. The only one that would have looked remotely decent was snapped in half.

Re: spoiler suggestions?

Spoilers are for show, that is probley why this post is in the non-performance, dont ya think? And really if your looking to increase your performance with a spoiler, you should start somewhere else with the money.
