Transmisson Problem 1997 S-10 4+4

Hi I am new to this site. My problem began when I had a radio installed. The very same night my transmission started to overheat. It smelled like something was burning. I took it to the mechnic and he told me the transmission was fried. He rebuilt it I took it home and the same thing happened. It overheated and the fuild came out. He then said that the selonid switch needed to be updated so he did that and I took it home and at first gear would jump into gear but it ran ok then a few hours later the same problem with overheating and the transmission fuild dripped out I am so upset could anyone have an idea what this is please HELP Anne

Re: Transmisson Problem 1997 S-10 4+4

Where is the fluid coming out, the filler tube ?

That happened to me once when I topped it off with the wrong type of tranny fluid. Had shop remove pan, clean, replace filter, etc.

Also, it has 2 lines to circulate rad coolant to/from it. Maybe they are plugged or airlocked in a high point ?

Is coolant temp high ? Maybe change thermostat on top of engine where large hose connects.

Mine would get hot in very hot weather climbing long inclines.

Make sure the vehicle rolls easily to know a brake is not causing resistance.

Get a 2nd opinion from another shop you think you can trust, like a big name tranny specialist shop.
