Angry Very Confused And Need Help!!!!!

I bet this will be the first confusing problem with the intrigue...lol I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue 3.8. I bought it back in July 2005, NEVER had a bit of problem with it at all, until now, now when something goes wrong for me it seems like everything does as well...lol. I am hoping that someone may have had a simular problem as I have and help me out. I went to work and my anti lock light came on, my car would hardly pull, I found out why it wouldnt pull, they say it is because my transmission went into that safety shut down. And then I bring it home for my husband to look at it and everything is fine, (brakes and calipers). So my husband takes it down the road and the alt light came on. So I had it tested and the alt wasnt charging, so I had gotten a new one, and it was over charging, so to make a long story short, My car is completely dead, I can start it on battery alone, the alt light is on, the anti lock light is on, and my car has no power. I went trough 3 alts from advance, 4 from napa, and got this one from auto zone. I was told by the dealer that I couldnt have a short anywhere, because I would be blowing fuses and I am not. If anyone is able to help me I would appreciate it. Thank you.

What made you think the alternator was overcharging? Is it still overcharging? I assume not if the light is on.

One thing you may check, is there 12V at the alternator at all times? this should be the heavier red cable attached to a stud on the alternator. It should have power even when the car is off.

Re: Very Confused And Need Help!!!!!

I just took my car to the dealer and they said that is the aftermarket alts. Here is what they said. All codes for ABS system tech 2 History codes cleared codes road test nothing current
Had to unplug voltage regulator alternator output too high 19.23 Volts could be causing faults. So they are saying that it is the alternator. They want me to take this one back and get my money back and get one from them which is only like 40.00 more, they told me that if I still have troubles to bring it back in, they said that they feel that this is deffinately what is wrong. It pulled ALL of my ABS codes. Thanks for the help.

Re: Very Confused And Need Help!!!!!

I took my car to the dealer garage and they found the prob. It was a short in the orange wire that runs from my alt to the fuse box. They replaced the wire and my car runs good now, so far. Wish me luck.
