Re: engine spiting flames

flames coming out the header? I don't see how this could be a problem, just means how much HP that motor has LOL.

Ok on the more serious side. Sounds like your ignition timing is off, or you wired the dizzy wrong. and if you are running it open header, than thats a bad idea. Those flames you see coming out are backfires and can burn a valve, which would mean the head is toast.

Re: engine spiting flames

I was just about to mention the valves...But really, almost all engine will spit flame..that what the header is for, but if you mean shooting fire over a good distance then your timing is messed up and your not getting a full burn before the exhaust valve opens. If its flaming when you let off of the gas then Im sure that pretty normal, especially from high RPM. Your mixture changes when you let off, because your no longer getting as much air but your still delivering fuel, which means thefuel will not burn until it hits the Oxygen outside of the engine, again, relatively normal.

Re: engine spiting flames

Whoops, overlooked that part...Uhh you sure you didn't put the dizzy in 180 deg. backwards? Seen it before (blew the damn muffler apart in the process). And the codes definately paint a good picture...

Re: engine spiting flames

Hey man if you can put an engine in, you can time the damn thing! Timing is adjusted by rotating the distributor...youll need a timing light (cheap) and youll need the stock spec for it, I dont know what it is but a search will find you just what you want...

Re: engine spiting flames

well we have treid many spots with moving the dizzy around every where and we have got nothing out of it. but we had to mess with it to get the ecu to blink. so i guess we had it. i guess we will try again but what else could it be\? we put the rest of the exhaust back on the it has that. still sparking but it isnt throwing the flame the the back of the exhaust. i am just out of things to try. pleasde help if you can

Re: engine spiting flames

while trying to figure out what to do go to store by some shiskabob sticks and get some marshmellows and you can warm them up off the flames you are spitting out the back

Haha, I figured youd have thought of that, or know to begin with...sometimes you assume too much I suppose...Not to say your stupidor anything, you wouldn't believe the amount of crap Ive forgotten, like re-assembling my entire suspenson...and then trying to put the cv axle in, that was a stupid moment.
