Angry Problem caused by water

I left my windows down on the ONLY night it decides to rain. I noticed after about 5 minutes but there was quite a bit of water in the car. All the electronics work accept the windshield wipers. All the settings on it work.. but they wont turn off. When in the off position sometimes it will take a long time to flick on or somethimes it comes on at about half speed. When its not wiggin out on the off position.. there is a clicking sound under the hook where what i think is the wiper motor. How do i fix this? Do i need to replace the switch? How do i unplug the wipers for now? its a 96 3.8 bird, by the way

Thumbs up Re: Problem caused by water

Well i sprayed some electronics cleaner directly on the stick and into the steering column where it enters. When i woke up this morning the wipers dropped down in their original position and didn't make the clicking noise. I havent tried wiping them just in case they are still messing up. the truth will come when it rains again. which, lucky for me, we are in a burn ban for the ABSENCE of water lol. accept that one night of course. thanks to all to looked and thought "i'll help him out later" lol..., Sean

Re: Problem caused by water

Well, if you want to get bold, I would try them again and see if they stopped. I have a feeling the connection was just wet and has since dried out. Otherwise it should still be doing it. The only other possibility is that there is a short in a wire that just happens to coincide with the rain incident. Maybe the moisture helped make the connection. Either way, I would see if it is still doing it so your not screwed when they wont turn off on the highay to work or something and it drizzles just enough you have to turn them on but stops for the rest of your now annoying winshield scraping trip :-p Besides, I believe there is a fuse you could remove for the wipers if it comes to that and they wont shut off...either on the drivers side of the dash or under the hood in the little black fuse box.
