S-10 Motors

I am in the process of putting a new motor in my Blazer i found a 2.8 and then a guy told me he had a motor at a better price with less miles. However he said he thought it was a (3. something and he thought it was in a malibu before. And i was wondering what my options are as far as motor sizes.Without getting into changing wireing harnesses and all that. i basically want to be able to just drop the motor in. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thx; Kat

Re: S-10 Motors

Welcome to Automotive Forums Katfish

I'm at work now, so I don't have any links here. I won't be able to get them to you until at least thursday after work either.

The 2.8L is one of Chevy's all time worst motors. They made some improvements in 86, but if you can avoid them do.

A Chevy 3.1L and a 3.4L will bolt right onto your transmission, and they are better motors

You'll need your oilpan, oil pickup, and you might need to have your fly wheel (or flex plate) rebalanced and use it.
Plus again depending upon what year it is you might need to use all the accessories and V-belt system off the 3.? motor
If you can hold off for about a week then send me a private message I'll get you some links to look at.

Re: S-10 Motors

Just something to be aware of if you get a front wheel drive motor, starter is on opposite sides and motor mounts are different, may need to fabricate a motor mount. You didn't specify what year your s10 is, 85 and earlier is carbureated, 86 first year of trottle body, 86 uses 1 v belt and serpantine belt, 87 and newer uses only a serpantine belt, also 86 -87 uses different timing chain cover and water pumps. If you use a camaro 2.8 or 3.1 you will need to change intake as it is tuned port and different timing chain cover. Just a little info from my experiences.
