Can you post a picture?
Water pump has a belt going to it, the thermostat doesn't. Try autozone.com to see if they have a free repair guide for your car, otherwise try the library if you don't want to buy a repair manual.

if its the V6, both the thermostat and the w/p are located to the right of the valve cover.
