1985 SS Chevy Monte Carlo Project

Hello everyone. I just recently purchased a 1985 SS Monte Carlo and everything is original and it runs. It is a rust bucket but I will restore it. I don’t know where to start but I have a dilemma. I have a 350 engine out of a 1972 Chevy Malibu, should I just have this engine rebuilt since it is already out and sitting in my garage and will it bolt up with the trans and exhaust, ecm etc that is in the SS or will I need a lot of additional stuff.

Re: 1985 SS Chevy Monte Carlo Project

Yes the 350 will be a direct swap. Everything on the 305 will fit the 350 except for the pistons and the Oil Pan.

All the accesories will bolt up providing the 350 heads have the accessory holes in the front of them.

A '72 350 will have the Oil Dipstick on the Driver side where the '85 305 is on the Pass. side.

Good luck with it !! I just bought a '86 Monte SS myself off the original owner. Luckily its in great shape.

Re: 1985 SS Chevy Monte Carlo Project

for some stupid f-ing reason, my friend wanted a 350 olds motor in his 84 . i argued with him. but i did what he wanted. If i can put an olds motor in a monte then you wont have any problems. just a story .

ps,,, funniest looking engine compartment ive ever seen for a monte

Thumbs up Re: 1985 SS Chevy Monte Carlo Project

Thanks, you guys. I will proceed with the 350 rebuild since it is already out in the garage and just waiting to be reborn again.
